Swaéli Mbappé

Swaéli Mbappé is a professional bass player, session and live musician for the past 10 years. He has collaborated with many international artists as China Moses, Mayra Andrade, Blick Bassy, Daby Toure, Jean-Luc Ponty, as well as french popstars like TAL, Sh’ym or Amel Bent.

As a live musician, he has performed on some of the greatest scenes all around the world. Such stages include the North sea jazz festival, WOMAD, Francofolies de la Rochelle, Sakifo, solidays MIMO Festival, Olympia, Zenith or Accord hotel arena.

At the end of the day, it is all about the groove and how best to support the music and an artist’s vision. Initiator of many projects himself, he is enthusiastic about creating the « music of tomorrow ». His career is now scattered with records in which his contribution is paramount.

Revelation at the 2024 Victoires du Jazz awards

The Monsieur Mâlâ collective, formed in 2010, blends jazz, funk, African and Caribbean music. After several EPs, Nicholas Vella (piano, Fender Rhodes, keyboards), Swaéli Mbappé (bass, guitars), Yoann Danier (drums), Robin Antunes (violin, mandolin) and Balthazar Naturel (saxophone, English horn, clarinets, flutes) released their first album in March 2024. The quintet describe their creative process as a factory where nothing is set in stone but everything circulates, shaping the music of their joys and sorrows. Named Monsieur Mâlâ (which refers to the rosary used to recite mantras), like their group, the album is a reflection of their transcendental universal language and their perpetual creative quest.
